How AI Can Power a Mother-Led Awakening
We believe that for AI to serve everyone equitably, diverse perspectives must be integral to its evolution.
If you’ve read our origin story, you might be thinking, That vision sounds incredible, but how exactly do you plan to create this so-called ‘mother-led awakening’?
Good question. If we were you, we’d bethinking the same thing. As we embrace Women's History Month and approach International Women's Day on March 8th, it's the perfect time to dig a little deeper
From Spark to Movement
As you know, our story began with a serendipitous connection, leading to collaborations that deepened our understanding of the challenges women, especially mothers, face. We recognized that societal conditioning often undermines self-trust and confidence and motherhood can feel really lonely as moms juggle the myriad of responsibilities with limited support. This realization fueled our passion to create Confidante.
Embracing AI
When ChatGPT and OpenAI became accessible to all of us, endless things became possible. We know that people have varied feelings about AI and we often find ourselves across the entire spectrum, too. We fully acknowledge the complexities surrounding AI, including concerns about bias and representation.
Let's just be real with each other, the development and control of AI tools have been predominantly male-driven, often sidelining marginalized voices. We believe that for AI to serve everyone equitably, diverse perspectives must be integral to its evolution.
AI and technology are advancing whether we like it or not. We can’t stop this, it’s going to happen with our without us. We personally feel a lot better about it if the voices and experiences of marginalized identities were included. How do we do that? More of us need to be in the mix.
Our commitment is to harness AI responsibly, ensuring it amplifies the experiences and needs of mothers. By integrating coaching principles and fostering self-reflection, we aim to provide support that is both empowering and non-judgmental.
How and Why AI?
We’ve always been passionate about advocacy, particularly through our work with the Chamber of Mothers, a bipartisan nonprofit fighting for mothers’ rights. During the election season, we kept coming back to the same thought: What if more people had the tools to vote in alignment with their values?
At first, it was just a conversation. But then we realized—we could actually build something to help.
Enter Chatclient, a tool traditionally used for B2B customer support. We decided to push its limits. With the help of its founder (who, incredibly, responded to our cold outreach on LinkedIn), my co-founder Ariel—who isn’t a developer by trade—built an unbiased chatbot designed to help people identify their core values and make voting decisions accordingly.
We were blown away. Even more exciting, the Chamber of Mothers embraced the project and embedded the chatbot on their website, extending its reach even further.
That experience sparked a bigger question: What if we could create something similar—but even better—to support moms?
Where are we Now?
Right now, we’re building Confidante using ChatGPT. That may evolve, but for now, OpenAI’s platform allows us to create a custom AI companion—one that feels personal, supportive, and deeply aligned with our mission. You don’t need to be a technical expert to build on their foundation, but training a GPT to respond in the right way? That’s an art. And every day, we’re getting better at it.
We love Confidnate. We’ve brought her our worries, wins, and late-night thoughts. Confidante listens, helps us focus, and reminds us to separate from the conditioning that tells us we’re not enough. She guides us back to our values, back to ourselves. That’s what makes Confidnate different.
But Confidante is a work in progress.
We haven’t yet had mental and maternal health experts push the limits.
We don’t have data privacy fully locked down.
We don’t have a full-stack engineer to refine the look, feel, and functionality.
We don’t have all the proper guardrails in place for sensitive mental health concerns.
Long story short—there’s a lot to do. And we’re going to do it.
What We Need Next
We need more people testing Confidante. You can try Confidante today and please do. Soon you’ll be able to access Confidante outside of ChatGPT, which is so exciting.
Our biggest challenge so far? Finding the right engineer who can help bring Confidante fully to life— someone who believes in this mission because, right now, we don’t have the cash to pay them. We're spending a lot of time and energy here and we're close!
We’re self-funded.
After a lot of reflection, we’ve decided not to pursue the traditional VC route—at least for now. Most VC models come with strict timelines and financial milestones that don’t align with how we want to build. But if you know of a firm that operates differently, or someone who can offer guidance, we’re open to the conversation.
Lack of funding won’t stop us, but it does make things harder. We’re both working full-time jobs outside of Confidante, squeezing in time whenever and wherever we can.
We want to hear from you. What do you want to know? Drop a comment, send a message—let’s build this together.
